Linden boys' basketball off to stellar early start; Tigers win first 3 heading into holiday tournament final

The Linden boys’ basketball team, coming off a 14-13 season in which many of this year’s players gained valuable experience, is off to an impressive 3-0 start after downing Newark Tech, Nottingham and Bayonne.

Linden’s latest win was a 67-53 triumph Monday over Bayonne in the semifinals of the Buc Holiday Classic at Red Bank Regional High School in Little Silver.

Quadeer Lewis paced the Tigers with a stellar performance that included 18 points and seven rebounds.
Lewis scored 15 and Jaurice Jones and Trell Myers 14 each in Linden’s 78-42 tournament win over Nottingham Sunday. Rodney Sanders added 13.

Linden opened with a convincing 60-26 home triumph over Newark Tech Dec. 23, with Elijah Hodge leading the way with 16 points. Jones added 14 and Lewis 11.

The season-opening Dec. 18 game vs. St. Patrick at Kean University in Union, which was postponed because of deaths in the family pertaining to both head coaches, has not been re-scheduled yet as of the Linden schedule that is on www.highschoolsports.net.

The Dec. 19 Tip-off Showcase game vs. Ridge at Kean University most likely will not be made up.
Linden varsity players include Jarrett Calhoun, Steven Carvabali, Bart Gallo, Bryan Glinsky, Elijah Hodge, Jaurice Jones, Quadeer Lewis, Curtis Lowery, Shaquille Mitchell, Trell Myers, Justin Philippe, Rodney Sanders, Anthony Wellington.

Linden is scheduled to play two road games next week, with a game at Westfield Tuesday at 4 p.m. and at Plainfield Jan. 9 at 1 p.m.

The Tigers return home for a non-league game against Paramus Catholic Jan. 12 at 4 p.m. and then on Jan. 14 host Elizabeth at 4 p.m.

A first Union-Essex Challenge is scheduled for Jan. 16 at the Dunn Sport Center in Elizabeth, with Linden scheduled to play Irvington that day there at 6:30 p.m.
